Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition – Update 177723 steam_community_announcements
Welcome to a new update for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition! With today’s Update we’re delivering a rather massive list of bug fixes, changes, and new features to help keep your experience vibrant! This patch delivers a set of stability improvements and bug fixes, addressing crashes, performance issues, and inconsistencies across both PC and consoles.

Gameplay has been refined with fixes to unit behavior, technologies, and civilization bonuses to ensure mechanics work as intended. Pathfinding and economic interactions, such as Mule Cart positioning, have also been improved for smoother play.

Bugfixing pass for UI, audio, and multiplayer systems, chat, lobbies, civilization selection, and Bluetooth audio quality. Smaller AI behavior changes for campaigns and co-op missions have also been implemented for better reliability.

Additional balance changes adjust unit costs, training times, and civilization bonuses to support a more consistent gameplay experience.

Be sure to dig down into the post below to get all of the smaller details before hopping in-game and checking them out firsthand. Enjoy the update!

Developer Note: We did want to follow up on information we shared in previous patch notes, however, and talk a bit more about Console bugs and the problems some of you have been having with your experience.

We’ve seen that you’ve been scanning PUP information and looking for specifics around some of the problems you’ve been reporting to us, such as crashes, invisible units, and general instability of various kinds as you get further into Console matches. There aren’t bullets highlighting those specific issues because their shared root cause has been less of a bug fix and more of a significant engineering refactor of a few things under the hood, but we’re happy to say that today’s Update should resolve many of these problems for you!

We’ll be monitoring your feedback and looking for anything we need to continue to work on as it comes up. This particular set of problems has been a tricky one for us, as there hasn’t been any kind of quick fix we could make happen, but much heavier low-level engineering work that wound up being needed to address some of the problems you’ve been reporting. This has taken us some time and we know that’s been frustrating for many, and we appreciate both your patience as well as your continued support! As we mentioned in our previous patch notes, we’ve got an increased focus on Console going into the next year and more work we intend to do to further uplift your experience, so this really just kicks off that focus and we’ll be back with an increased set of Console-specific bug fixes and attention in future Updates.

This is just a small taste of what is coming in the latest update. For a more complete list, please visit our site and check out our blog. Happy Gaming!

What is Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition?

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is an invitation to lead a broad range of civilizations, from marauding Huns to fiery Celts, as they carve their paths through a thousand years of history. Players grow their settlements from Dark Age hamlets to imposing citadels by balancing resource gathering with military spending to defend what is already theirs and to conquer what is not.

Narrative Campaigns, Skirmish Modes, and Multiplayer

Each single-player campaign is packed with historical flavour, featuring famous leaders from Kings to Khans, and incorporating the technologies and weaponry of each era. The Definitive Way to Play

As the latest iteration of this storied game, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition arrives on macOS as an Apple silicon native version, with the benefit of more than two decades of refinements. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition – Minor Update 174992 steam_community_announcements
Hello Community! Today we’re shipping a patch that includes some diagnostic tools that are going to help us get some more information about issues that some users are experiencing on Xbox Consoles, and as part of that we wanted to provide some awareness that we’re closely tracking the problems you’re having and that we’re very much working on these issues now.

Developer Note: While this brief update is mostly a communication about what’s to come, we’d also like to add some context that we’ve got a lot of capacity dedicated to improving quality of life for our Console players over the next year and in general.

Our Console and our PC versions of the game are quite different under the hood. The Console versions include several unique UI and gameplay systems alongside underlying technology and engineering differences that mean certain kinds of issues will often need to be handled in slightly or significantly different ways in two different places. Depending on what kind of work effort we’re talking about, fixing issues or making changes often involves a slow step-by-step process in a linear order, with a fair bit of diagnostic process along the way.

Right now we’re focused on delivering fixes for players having problems with their game on Console and getting that in your hands as quickly as we’re able (timing still TBD). We know that you’re anxious for solutions and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we take the time needed to make sure we deliver reliable fixes and avoid additional problems. We definitely hear your concerns and we want you to know that we’re committed to supporting the overall health of our Console community for the long term!

Looking ahead, you should start to see an increased volume of fixes and changes in future patch notes that serve to uplift the experience on Console even further. This will come from an increased concentration on your Console experience overall, and you’ll see this play out over an extended period of time as we continue to service the game and build on the experience across all platforms.

As always, please continue reporting any additional issues you find, including logs and detailed info when possible. Your contributions so far have been extremely helpful, and we appreciate your support while we continue working towards a resolution.

Age of Empires esports is very much alive, as London Wololo beats AO2 and 4 records PCGamesN
As a League of Legends enthusiast that's writing this article in a Fnatic t-shirt, I'm very much of the mind that esports isn't dead. Oftentimes seen as a fad that came and went in the early 2020s, competitive gaming is certainly its own niche with its own problems, but it's here to stay. When you think of esports, however, you conjure up an image of the fast-paced action of a Counter-Strike Major, or the glitz and glamor of League of Legends Worlds. You don't immediately think of Age of Empires 2, a strategy game that was first released in 1999. But AoE esports is thriving, and Red Bull Wololo: Londinium proves it.

A Deep Dive into the New Muisca Civilization steam_community_announcements
Fabulously wealthy in gold, precious stones, and salt, the Muisca watch over the northern Andean highlands with skilled ranged soldiers and potent, mysterious priests. Ingenious craftsmanship and thriving trade networks have spread the legend of their prosperity far beyond Muisca borders, where it has even reached the ears of avaricious conquistadors. Despite the divisive war between the Zipa and Zaque demigods, the hidden Muisca mountain refuges should defy conquest and subjugation.

Bonuses

• Advancing to the next Age costs less gold.

• Settlements cost less and heal nearby units.

• Champi Warriors and Archery Range units get increased melee armor in Feudal/Castle/Imperial Ages.

• Monks regain faith faster.

• Caravan and Guilds are free.

• Team Bonus: Natural gold sources last longer.

Unique Units

Guecha Warrior

Guecha warriors were elite Muisca soldiers who gained significant social status through military victories. They carried a variety of weapons, but commonly utilized javelins and long shields. Guecha warriors carried their predecessors' mummified remains into battle, believing that the fallen warrior’s body could lend them strength, fierceness, and deadly skill.

This formidable javelineer excels against ranged soldiers and regenerates whenever a nearby Guecha Warrior dies.

Temple Guard

The Muisca had a strong religious tradition, which they practiced at locations such as the beautiful Sun Temple of Sugamuxi. They defended these wealthy sites fiercely against predatory rivals, whether they be Spanish conquistadors, German explorers, or fellow Muisca.

This zealous heavy infantry attacks faster the longer it remains in combat and will fight to the bitter end.

Unique Technologies

Herbalism

Advanced knowledge of local flora allowed the Muisca to reap numerous health and vitality benefits from the northern Andean environment.

Effect: Archer-line and Champi Warriors move faster.

Huaracas

The huaraca was a sling common in the Andean region. Easy to use and capable of swiftly hurling stones over vast distances, it remained an accessible and dangerous missile weapon throughout the region’s history.

A Deep Dive into the New Tupi Civilization steam_community_announcements
The bold, honorable Tupi prowl the eastern jungles, escarpments, and coasts of South America with formidable warbands of infantry and ranged soldiers. Wide geographical distribution grants them easy access to a variety of resources, while prudent frugality promotes sustainable use of arms and armaments. As foreign arrivals reshape the internal and external tribal relations, the Tupi trust in their large numbers and skilled diplomacy to endure whatever adversity comes their way.

Bonuses

• Start with additional resources.

• Villagers can garrison in Settlements.

• Fallen units return a percentage of their cost.

• Archery Range and Barracks upgrades cost less food.

• Team Bonus: Towers and Castles provide extra population space.

Unique Units

Blackwood Archer

Tupi bows were usually made with blackwood and were larger than traditional European bows. The Tupi sometimes made flaming arrows by tying cotton to an arrowhead, dipping it in wax, and then igniting it. They also created poison arrows by using stingray spines as arrowheads.

Blackwood Archers are inexpensive and train in pairs, allowing armies of them to be fielded extremely quickly.

Ibirapema Warrior

While Tupi bows were multifaceted weapons, the ibirapema was imbued with ceremonial significance. It was decorated with feathers and colorful paint, and used in ritual killings of enemies. The Tupi also deployed ibirapemas in close combat situations.

These hulking heavy infantry units swing a massive club at enemies, dealing area damage.

Unique Technologies

Caciques

The cacique was the chieftain of an indigenous tribe. These charismatic leaders boosted the morale of their warriors and took charge of their tactical movements on the battlefield.

Effect: Champi Warriors and Slingers attack faster.

Curare

Curare is a plant-based poison historically used to tip weapons and projectiles throughout much of Central and South America. Depending on quantity and concentration, the poison can cause weakness, local paralysis, and even asphyxiation.

Effect: Foot archers and fortifications deal poison damage over time.
