Warframe creative director says Destiny 2's end is tragic, because even with hard work 'the business side of this industry always gets the last remark'
Destiny 2 isn't going anywhere, but it also isn't… well, going anywhere. The game's servers will still be running for the foreseeable future, but Bungie has since ceased updates to its flagship shooter to move onto other projects, tragically laying off much of its staff in the aftermath of that decision...

Destiny 2 players get a final farewell gift from Bungie
Destiny 2 is done: The final patch is out, Bungie is decimated, and the game will remain playable but the story of one of the biggest, best and most influential online shooters ever is over. To memorialize the moment, Bungie has rolled out one last gift for players: A new emblem, free for everyone, called Gloriabundus...

Former Marathon director settles lawsuit against Sony and Bungie, following his firing over alleged inappropriate messages to female staff
Former Marathon director Christopher Barrett has settled his lawsuit against Sony and Bungie. He filed the lawsuit against the studio after a quiet departure which was confirmed in March 2024.
Bloomberg reported in August 2024 that Barrett had been fired after he was accused by several female Bungie staff of inappropriate behaviour. Barrett subsequently sued Sony and Bungie for breach of contract and defamation, claiming that the real reason he was fired was to prevent him being paid a bonus of over $45 million, with the suit seeing Sony reveal some of the inappropriate text messages Barret allegedly sent to staff.

Well, at least one good thing's come out of Destiny 2's demise: lob tomatoes at ex-Bungie CEO Pete Parsons' car collection in this fan-made boss battler
Following the end to Destiny 2's development and subsequent layoffs at developers Bungie, fans of the series have decided to get a bit of revenge of the studio's ex-boss Pete Parsons in one of the few ways they can. By making a browser game in which the player is tasked with lobbing enough tomatoes to defeat both Parsons and his collection of cars.

Players prove Destiny 2 can still produce wonders with discovery of poopy pants transmog
Destiny 2 has entered its long goodnight. Despite earlier assurances that Destiny 2 will "remain playable" for the foreseeable future, the studio now seems to be signaling that its ability to ensure the game's ongoing health is constrained. Even if Bungie and Sony had the will to ensure Destiny 2's sandbox stays fulfilling in its sunset years, they'd struggle to find someone to make it happen—because most of the Destiny team was cut loose last month...

You're invited to Destiny's cursed unofficial final raid: Pete Carsons' Vault of Cars
The reasons behind the decline and ultimate end of Destiny 2 will always be a topic of discussion. It's, in my opinion, one of the biggest fumbles in entertainment history. No one thing is to blame, but former Bungie CEO and avid car collector Pete Parsons, who retired in August 2025 as sentiment was at an all-time low and pressure from Sony grew, is the focus of much of the ire. "I hope all your cars break down," one player wrote in a cheerful farewell to the departing CEO last year, in a rare moment of community unity...

Following the last Destiny 2 update, layoffs at Bungie are underway, with most of the shooter's team affected
Back in May, Bungie announced that their long running shooter MMO Destiny 2 would be getting its final ever big update in June. At the time there were rumours that layoffs would follow not long after the update arrived. Now, a little over two weeks since the update dropped, Bungie have confirmed that layoffs are taking place.

With Destiny 2 over, Bungie lays off 'most of the Destiny team and some Marathon team members'
Bungie has announced a "reduction in force" as it reorganizes following the end of development on Destiny 2, saying that with its premiere game now ended and new projects still in very early stages of development, "we unfortunately could not continue operating at our previous size."..

'Don't blame yourselves' for Destiny 2's end, community lead tells players: 'No words can accurately depict how lucky we are to have shared these worlds with you'
Destiny 2 has reached the end of the line: The final update is live, TWIDs are over, and we're all left wondering how the one-time king of live service shooters has come to such ignominious ruin. Even Destiny's competitors are baffled by Sony's decision to pull the plug, although some say Sony's not the real villain here at all. If there is a villain, besides Bungie management—which I think we can all agree has been pretty consistently not great—one thing's for sure: It's not Destiny players...

"Truthfully, it's heartbreaking": Warframe dev on the hole that Destiny 2 leaves behind
There's long been a bit of a rivalry between Destiny and Warframe's respective communities because of them both being shooty, sci-fi, MMOy joints. But when it comes to the community director behind Warframe, the recent end to new Destiny 2 updates and expansions is no victory, and mostly just finds the whole situation to be "devastating."

We could've had a 'very Dream Daddy-inspired' Destiny dating sim, but management said no fun
If you were thinking Destiny 2's ending couldn't get any more depressing, you're wrong. Unfortunately. In a reaction to my pondering of what Destiny 3 should even be (if ever made, of course), a streamer by the name of Chrizmo demanded something that's been brought up a few times over the years: a dating sim...

Bungie's at a crossroads: Should Destiny 3 be a live service, just a campaign, or something else entirely?
Now that Destiny 2's massive final update is here, it's more or less set in stone forever. Destiny is calcified—no more FOMO, no need to re-grind gear, and the end of a seasonal treadmill...
