Your first look at Unreal Engine 6 comes courtesy of a much shinier looking Rocket League teaser
Epic Games have made no secret of the next release of Unreal Engine; they first shared some details about the follow-up back in 2024, namely that it's being built around the idea of "interoperable content" that can be switched between any game that uses the engine. Now, Unreal Engine 6 has been somewhat formally revealed through the lens of a "new era" of Rocket League during the game's Paris Majors semi-finals.

Easy Anti-Cheat arrives in Rocket League and marks the end of the game's most popular mod: 'The right time to bring things to a close'
Epic has made Easy Anti-Cheat a requirement to play Rocket League online, hopefully bringing an end to the era of bots whizzing around in high rank matches and endlessly XP farming. The software comes as part of the game's latest update, and does include an option to play the game offline without EAC running...

"Rocket League is still a priority" despite Psyonix layoffs
While looking through the countless LinkedIn posts of developers looking for work after Epic Games laid off over 1,000 staff this week, I noticed a disproportionate number worked for Psyonix. The Rocket League developer was acquired by Epic in 2019, and has continued to work on the hit car-football crossover, as well as various Fortnite implementations, since. However, a spokesperson assures PCGamesN that Rocket League is still at the forefront of Epic's mind.

Rocket League Bracket Rivalry
What is Bracket Rivalry?
Pick your side and compete. Bracket Rivalry tips off with eight creator duos entering a single-elimination showdown, all chasing the same goal: win their matchup, advance to the next round, and prove they belong at the top.
Swing by the Shop to claim a free Player Title for the duo you’re backing. Once it’s equipped, every goal you score counts toward your team’s total, helping them climb through each stage of the tournament.
Follow the action as the bracket updates round by round and teams are knocked out on the path to the finals. Each new round resets the scoring, giving every advancing team a fresh shot to move on. It all leads to a LIVE showmatch between the final two teams at the Paris Major on May 24. Fan scoring will help determine which teams reach the finals, but it won’t play a role in the live showmatch.

•
View total Rocket League player population.
•
See playlist-specific population when you’re hovering on a mode.
Now you’ll know exactly how packed the pitch is before you queue up.
Flip Reset Indicator
We’ve introduced a new audio and visual cue to signal when a player has achieved a flip reset, which is when the player has regained their dodge by touching the ball with three or more wheels.
•
The visual effect is designed as a quick burst to reinforce the moment of reset without disrupting gameplay clarity.
•
The flip reset indicator is only visible/audible to the player performing the flip reset or for spectators, but appears for all players during replays, when the option is enabled.
•
You can disable the flip reset indicator in the settings.
•
Disabling the flip reset indicator also turns off the effect while you spectate.
Visible Matchmaking Rating (MMR)
Players now have the option to choose to display their MMR in Competitive Playlists. Enable this option in the settings to:
•
Show your MMR on Competitive Playlist tiles.
•
Display MMR on the scoreboard at the end of Ranked Matches.
This setting does not affect Casual Playlists.
Boost Timer Visualization
Large boost pads now display a visual recharge indicator so you can play more strategically.
•
Large boost pads take 10 seconds to respawn, with the visual indicator gradually refilling over those 10 seconds until the pad is fully recharged.
Override Boost Audio Option
Players can now set the default, Standard Boost sound to any Boost they have equipped.
•
The Override Boost Audio check box can be found in the Audio tab in the settings.
•
Only affects your in-match audio, not replays or menus. Other players will still hear the sound associated with the equipped Boost.
