July 2026 Stable Update steam_community_announcements
Hello everyone! It is time for the July 2026 Stable Update and other news.

This month's announcement contains 1.4.5 update progress, a quick showcase of new mods from the past month, and the changelog for the new stable release.

Future Terraria 1.4.5 Support

As mentioned previously, the process of updating tModLoader to all of the new content and features of the Terraria 1.4.5 update (Bigger and Boulder) will take some time. This process as well as any other big changes desired by the modding community for this update will take many months still.

Terraria 1.4.5 Support Progress

We are continuing to see a huge amount of community participation and contributions for the 1.4.5 update and are extremely grateful for those willing to help with this process through code contributions, bug reporting, testing, and participation in the discussions that take place on Discord. The tModLoader team will continue to work with experienced modders to progress towards the tModLoader 1.4.5 update.

There are still many tasks to be done, if you are interested in contributing code for the 1.4.5 update, the 1.4.5 Update Information page has information on how to contribute and what tasks remain to be done. That page also explains how to join the "1.4.5-dev" beta branch. Users can join that beta branch to help identify and report remaining bugs.

We'd like to encourage modders to take this opportunity to come discuss any tModLoader API shortcomings with the tModLoader team and contributors on Discord, even if they are not able to personally contribute the changes. Major releases present an opportunity to fix issues that couldn't be addressed properly in regular monthly releases.

As usual, community contributions are discussed mainly on Discord initially and then on GitHub to be implemented.

Terraria 1.4.5 Support FAQ

Q: "Will all of my mods still work on v1.4.5 immediately?"
A: Due to how much has changed in the Terraria v1.4.5 update, the short answer to this is "no". Modders will, however, have ample opportunity to update their mods to v1.4.5 before it is officially released, so as long as the mods you are using are still maintained by the modder, they should be available on v1.4.5 once it has a stable release for players.

Q: "What will happen to 1.4.4?"
A: 1.4.4 mods and the 1.4.4 version of tModLoader will continue to exist and be available for players both during porting and after. It will be supported as a Legacy version like 1.3 and 1.4.3.

Q: "When will 1.4.4 stop receiving updates?"
A: 1.4.4 will continue to receive maintenance updates to ensure it stays functional. We do not have a date for when content updates will stop; in the near-term 1.4.4 will continue to receive regular updates until we are ready to 'Preview' the 1.4.5 beta build to modders.

Q: "Will 1.4.5 be backwards compatible with my worlds and players from 1.4.4?"
A: From tModLoader's side, one of our guiding principles is to ensure the player experience is as seamless as possible. We aim to maintain backwards compatibility in tModLoader and encourage modders to keep this in mind when it comes time.

April 2026 Stable Update steam_community_announcements
Hello everyone! It is time for the April 2026 Stable Update, as well as some other news.

This month's announcement contains news about 1.4.5 update progress, information about the new tModLoader-specific Workshop rules, a quick showcase of new mods from the past month, and the changelog for the new stable release.

Future Terraria 1.4.5 Support

We know everyone is looking forward to tModLoader and mods having access to all of the new content and features of the Terraria 1.4.5 update (Bigger and Boulder). We'd like to remind users that updating tModLoader to major Terraria releases is a huge undertaking. We are committed to working diligently on migrating to v1.4.5, but it does take some time, so we ask players to please be patient.

For context, the process of updating tModLoader to v1.4.4 took 9 months. During that process, many large features were added to tModLoader to better support the capabilities of mods, which did extend the porting process quite a bit. We don't expect quite as many large changes this time, so the actual porting process should be shorter than how it was for v1.4.4.

This process as well as any other big changes desired by the modding community for this update will take many months still. We ask that players and modders remain patient as we work on the update. tModLoader will continue to work as expected during this process, but please note that Terraria players and worlds played on the 1.4.5 update can not be migrated to and used on current tModLoader.

Terraria 1.4.5 Support Progress

The tModLoader team spent this last month moving thousands of code changes over to the new Terraria source code. This initial porting process has mostly been completed and we can now compile and launch the development build of tModLoader once again. We are especially thankful to tomat for contributing a large amount of code to this process as well.

Now that this initial process is mostly complete, the code is in a state where we are ready for experienced contributors to help us go the rest of the way in restoring any remaining functionality. We'll need to verify that everything behaves as it did before, implement changes from the new Terraria update into our existing edits, and update the API in places where improvements need to be made.

We also encourage modders to take this opportunity to come discuss any tModLoader API shortcomings with the tModLoader team and contributors on Discord, even if they are not able to personally contribute the changes. Major releases present an opportunity to fix issues that couldn't be addressed properly in regular monthly releases.

As usual, community contributions are discussed mainly on Discord initially and then on GitHub to be implemented.

New tModLoader-specific Workshop Rules

In our continued efforts to provide a safe environment for all players, we recently introduced a workshop rules agreement. Modders publishing to the Steam Workshop will be required to accept these rules the next time they publish an update or new mod. We encourage modders to review the rules and keep them in mind as they create mods.

As a reminder, there is now a moderation queue for mods to allow our moderation team to review the code of each mod. If your mod has not been approved in over a day feel free to reach out on Discord and we will look it over again.

We hope these new rules as well as our continued moderation will help keep players safe.

New Mods Showcase

Here is a collage of new mods released this past month. There were over 450 new mods this month! Have you tried any of these mods yet? Find any hidden gems? Q: "Will 1.4.5 be backwards compatible with my worlds and players from 1.4.4?"
A: From tModLoader's side, one of our guiding principles is to ensure the player experience is as seamless as possible. We aim to maintain backwards compatibility in tModLoader and encourage modders to keep this in mind when it comes time.

Improving Security

We also want discuss our recent efforts in combating malware distribution on the workshop. As some of you may be aware, in the past year there has been an increase in attempts to use tModLoader to distribute malicious code. As members and supporters of this incredible modding community, we want to assure both players and modders that we are taking steps to respond to this new wave of malicious mods. We have already improved the server mod-syncing feature to be significantly safer and introduced several backend systems for validation and moderation.

Recently, in partnership with Valve, we introduced a new approval queue to give us a chance to catch malicious mods and updates before they have a chance to make it to users. As this tooling is new for Steam Workshop, we greatly appreciate the patience of modders while we work through the kinks to reduce moderation times and user issues. We will continue to adapt and limit as many attack vectors as reasonably possible to protect our community, however there is always some inherent risk with using mods.

We encourage everyone to be vigilant and diligent as always and are thankful this community contains many members who actively seek out and help us identify new risks and mitigations. We'd like to thank Jamz for developing and testing code analysis software, and the many people who have analyzed suspicious mods and reported potential malware to us for investigation and action in the past.

New Mods Showcase

Here is a collage of new mods released this past month. There were over 550 new mods this month! Have you tried any of these mods yet? Find any hidden gems? Be sure to regularly check the workshop for newly released mods, we're positive you'll always find something fun and interesting to try out. February 2026 Stable Update steam_community_announcements
Hello everyone! It is time for the February 2026 Stable Update, as well as some other news.

Plans for Terraria 1.4.5 Support

First, we hope everyone has been having fun playing the new Terraria v1.4.5 update (Bigger and Boulder). If you didn't know, Terraria just launched a huge update, be sure to check it out.

We know everyone is looking forward to tModLoader and mods having access to all of the new content and features as well.

We will have more information to share in later months as we start working on the update and have a better idea of the work involved.

We encourage modders to take this opportunity to come discuss any tModLoader API shortcomings on Discord and Github. Major releases present an opportunity to fix issues that couldn't be addressed properly in regular monthly releases.

Plans for Terraria 1.4.5 Support FAQ

The full listing of changes is detailed below. Users can use a new chat command (/purgeunloaded) to remove unloaded tiles in worlds that are from mods they are no longer using.

Modders: There are several features of note currently in preview for next month that modders can test and provide feedback for. The most impactful change in preview this month relates to a large batch of fixes we've made to various vanilla sounds. These fixes should finish bringing all sounds to parity with vanilla behavior. These changes might influence existing mod logic as well, so be sure to test out sounds in your mods after reading the porting notes.
