Hello vikings!

What a month June has been! We were finally able to reveal our [url=https://valheim.com/news/valheim-has-a-release-date-]1.0 release date[/url] at the PC Gaming Show earlier this month, and we’re delighted that so many of you seem excited for the launch! At last it is official that Valheim 1.0, with Deep North and all, releases on the 9th of September this year, with full crossplay between platforms. We’re very excited for you to be able to experience what we’ve been working on, and we really hope that you’ll have a great time!

Leading up to the launch, we can also reveal that we will have a booth at the Gamescom showfloor in August. If you’ll be at the event in Cologne, make sure to come find us for a chance to chat to some of the devs, and to experience Valheim in a more immersive way than ever before. We look forward to seeing you there, it’s gonna be big!

Valheim Has A Release Date! steam_community_announcements

For a long time you have asked when we will see the release of the Deep North, and at last we have a date to offer you!

Valheim 1.0 will arrive on 9 September, with new enemies to kill, bases to build and weapons to craft. The release will hit PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as per usual, and now we’re also adding PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 to the roster. Of course there will be full crossplay between all the platforms, so that you can play with your friends.

Thank you for being with us on this journey thus far, and stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the release!

Word From the Devs: Summoning Our Champions! steam_community_announcements
Hello vikings!

We would like to start off on a slightly different note this month, where instead of us sharing something with you, we want to ask you to share something with us. We are entering the final stages of development for the Deep North, and for Valheim 1.0, and for that launch to be the best it possibly can be we are in need of your help! There is currently a [url=https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/892970/view/508485755865137730]patch out on the PTB[/url] that features a rework of the save system, and we would be eternally grateful if you wanted to switch over to the PTB and test it out. What we would ask you to be particularly attentive to is any issues with your savedata or with the network functionality – if you find any issues pertaining to this (or any other bugs, of course) please [url=https://valheim.com/support]report them in our official form[/url]. Thank you most kindly!

On the topic of sharing, we also want to hear about your experiences of Valheim as a whole! Over the years we have received so many stories about people finding friends, community and love through the game, and we want to highlight these tales of kinship and joy. If you would like to tell us about what Valheim has meant to you, we encourage you to record a short video and submit it via [url=https://forms.gle/3VJresZvjiYEtMBg8]this form[/url]. It doesn’t have to look professional by any means, just follow the specifications listed in the form. Most importantly, tell us your story!

In this update we’re introducing a new save system for your Valheim worlds! The purpose of this is to make the game save faster, and to decrease the risk of corrupt save files. What the new system means in practice is that the game now saves your world in smaller chunks, and only the chunks that have been modified since the last save will be affected. Worlds will no longer be saved with a .db and a .fwl file, but will instead be saved and stored in separate folders, with the .db file broken down into smaller pieces. Backups will also have their own separate folders. Please note that if you intend to switch between the PTB and the Live branch of the game, it is not advisory to move your files around manually.

If this sounds overly technical, don’t worry – unless you’re frequently moving your files around manually, you won’t notice any difference beyond faster saving times!

For users who are running Valheim with mods, please note that this system has not been tested with mods. While we don’t believe there should be any issues relating to this, modding the game is always done at your own risk.

[h3]Detailed Patch Notes:[/h3]

* Introducing a new world save system
* The new save system only affects world saves, character saves remain the same.
* When saving, only the chunks that have been modified are saved.
* Instead of saving a world with the .db and .fwl files it’s now stored in folders and the world (.db) is split up in multiple files (chunks).
* Backups are stored in separate folders.
* When loading a world that is not chunked, a backup is made first so no data is lost in case of potential new bugs.
* The save system performs extra checks after saving to make sure it saved properly, which reduces the risk of a corrupt save.
* There is a new limitation in cloud storage, up until now it was only the total size of all saves. Some platforms have a limit in how many files can be saved, this was previously not a limitation but now there will be way more files saved.

Word From the Devs: Yeah, That’s A Drawbridge steam_community_announcements
Hello vikings!

We began this month of April, as is customary, with a bit of a laugh. Most of you caught on to the fact that it was an April Fools joke, but we do want to make sure to clarify that there is not going to be an additional game mode in Valheim where you can romance all the bosses, as fun as that might have been. Who had the most charming dialogue options? Who had the most romantic ending? We shall never know.

We also want to thank the team behind [url=https://www.val-con.org/]Val-Con[/url] for organising their event for the second time! Thank you for taking the time to bring the community together and celebrating Valheim! Our very own Robin Eyre and Jonathan Smårs featured during the event, as well as some of our friends from other companies who have helped us make the game, so make sure to check out their interviews in the [url=https://www.youtube.com/@ValConEvent/streams]VOD[/url].

But now, onto some teasers! Last month we asked if you had any guesses as to what one might be able to cook in the Deep North, and many of you guessed it: Meatballs with lingonberries, of course! They’re just one item on the menu of this biome though, because you’ll need plenty of food to sustain yourselves through adventures out in the cold:

Word From the Devs: Winter Adventures steam_community_announcements
Hello Vikings!

While the story of Hervor Bloodtooth has come to an end, the same cannot be said for the Deep North. We continue to work away on crafting the biome, and today we want to show you a couple of different wintery snippets of what to expect, before spring is properly upon us!

First out, we want to show perhaps one of our most Swedish aspects of the biome – the lingonberries. They can be found and harvested in the woods, and used in several of the biome’s food recipes. Got any guesses as to what you might be able to cook?

When it’s cold and snowy, one thing to always watch out for is slippery ice. The Deep North will be no different, and careless vikings might easily find themselves stumbling to catch their balance:

And in the Deep North, there will of course also be deep snow! This will need to be cleared if you want to settle down and build a base somewhere, but fortunately you can craft a shovel for this very purpose. Best put your back into it!

These are just a few of the things we’re working on at the moment, and we’re happy to say that the biome is shaping up to something we really think you will enjoy.

It takes place in the middle of April, and there are a whole bunch of fun activities scheduled. Word From the Devs: Looking to the Future steam_community_announcements
Hello Vikings!

First of all, thank you for all the kind messages during our five year anniversary earlier this month. We wouldn’t be here without all of you!

You might also have noticed that we announced that Valheim is coming to [url=https://valheim.com/news/valheim-is-coming-to-switch-2-]Nintendo Switch 2[/url] later this year! We’re really excited for this, and as usual we’re very thankful to have Piktiv helping us out with the port. Please note that the release will only be for Nintendo Switch 2, and not for the first Nintendo Switch console. Now, it must be said that Hervor’s story took place quite a long time ago, in a Deep North that’s a little bit different from the biome that you will explore yourselves, but perhaps there might still be some traces left of her for you to find…

One thing that will still remain standing despite the passage of time is of course the massive structure that marks the end of Hervor’s journey. What lies beyond this gate shall remain a mystery for all but the truly worthy, however.

Patch 0.221.12 steam_community_announcements
We've got a couple of fixes for you today!

Please also note that playing using Vulkan might currently cause Valheim to be unstable and/or crash. If you want to continue using Vulkan, you can disable the FPS limiters in e.g. the Nvidia Control Panel for a hopefully smoother experience. Rest assured that we're working on a solution for the Vulkan issue, however, and that it should hopefully be back to normal soon!

[h2]Patch Notes:[/h2]

* Added release-to-select in the radial menu: If you continue holding down the radial menu button/key after the radial menu appears, you can select an emote by releasing the button/key.
* Reverted crouching being unintentionally changed to a press-and-hold action on gamepad. Now it’s back to being a single press again.
* Fixed annoying resolution setting behavior in windowed mode when changing settings.
* Fixed crash on startup on Windows that triggers under specific conditions when using Vulkan.
* Fixed audio stutters in Ashlands.
* Fixed sometimes not being able to apply graphics settings properly the first time after updating from an earlier version.
* Fixed some minor UX issues in the graphics settings menu.

[b]For modders:[/b]
* Fixed a null reference exception that started happening in 0.221.10 when mods directly or indirectly accessed preferences at startup (for example via the localization system).

Patch 0.221.10 – Five Years of Valheim! steam_community_announcements
Greetings vikings!

Today marks the five year anniversary since Valheim was first released into Early Access – and what an incredible five years it’s been!

We want to thank everyone who has been a part of our journey and our community since then, whether you started playing on day one or have just been carried by the valkyrie for the first time. We greatly appreciate every single one of you, and we’re so glad to have you walk this path with us.

For this anniversary you will find a patch live right now for everyone, with some new celebratory items and emotes, along with some quality of life fixes!

Word From the Devs: Through the Roof steam_community_announcements
Greetings vikings!

We’ve truly hit the colder part of the year now, which gives us plenty of inspiration for the Deep North landscape. And just as we continue to work on the biome, Hervor Bloodtooth is continuing her journey:

Many of you have speculated for a long time, and as we now take a closer look at some of the abandoned structures in the Deep North, we want to properly confirm that the update will add the possibility to build steeper roofs! The 67° roof pieces will be 4 meters high, and available for both the thatch as well the darkwood roof styles. We’re really looking forward to seeing all the new and creative ways you will use these build pieces!

We also want to offer you a bit of a mystery this month! It’s something to do with the crafting process in the Deep North, can you guess what these things will be used for?

As we’re nearing the holiday season for many, we also want to make sure to give you some tips for Valheim themed gifts! Word from the Devs: Picking Up the Thread steam_community_announcements
Hello vikings!

We want to start with mentioning a Unity security vulnerability that occurred a few weeks back. There is no evidence that the vulnerability ever reached Valheim in any way, and we hurried to patch the game with the necessary updates from Unity as soon as we could. We didn’t make any announcement about this at the time as we didn’t want to cause unnecessary alarm, but we do also want to assure you that the game is safe for you to play. We thank you for your understanding!

But now to the more lighthearted stuff! The time has come to finally check back in with Hervor Bloodtooth. Without further ado:

The creatures down in the winding tunnels couldn’t best her! How do you think you’ll fare once it’s your turn to square up against them? They’ve caused quite a mess above the surface, after all…

Don’t worry though, there will be plenty of opportunities for creation in the Deep North too! The development of the biome is progressing well, and lately we’ve been focusing on things such as adding some interesting elements to the snow, as well as working out some new crafting extensions, just to name a few! We want to share the extension for the Galdr table with you as a little teaser, the loom:
